Lyndon Johnson came from a middle class family in Texas which had roots in farming before moving to the city.  John Kennedy came from an upper class Massachusetts family; his father was a well-to-do businessman and politician.  So you could say Kennedy came from the upper crust of culture, while Johnson was a more "earthy" character.
