Taken the current positions of the continents, the continent of South America drifted away from Pangea in west-northwest direction and came to its current position. When South America was still part of Pangea it was on the position were the eastern half of the south Atlantic is nowadays, with the current territory of Brazil bordering the west coasts (from Nigeria to RSA) of today's Africa.
