slope = - 4

To calculate the slope m use the gradient formula

m = ( y₂ - y₁ ) / (x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (4, 9 ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (6, 1 )

m = [tex]\frac{1-9}{6-4}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{-8}{2}[/tex] = - 4
