Explanation:

The speed of a wave on the string is given by :

[tex]v=\sqrt{\dfrac{T}{\mu}}[/tex]..........(1)

where

T is the tension force

[tex]\mu[/tex] is mass of the string per unit length, [tex]\mu=\dfrac{M}{L}[/tex]

M is the mass of the string

L is the length of the string

So, it is clear from equation that the speed of waves on a string is directly proportional to the square root of tension and length of the string. It is inversely proportional to the square root of the mass of the string.
