As Esperanza lived in a Latino slum neighborhood, she vowed that one day she will leave mango street and have her own house unlike her parents' house which is quite run down and open. Because of this she doesn't really have much privacy. She vowed to herself she will buy her own house hen she leaves
At the end of the novella, esperanza says she will leave mango street one day in order to come back and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
