Farmers were able to cultivate their crops on pea soils. The draining soils allow farmers to fertilized the land. Everglades also provided water supply to agricultural and urban areas. Phosphorus entered the Everglades Area where the farmers also enriched their lands with phosphorus fertilizers. The Federal government agreed to reduce the phosphorus in the area.
