This battle was the first major defeat of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. The rebel forces attacked the city of Quebec on December 31, 1775, in an attempt to take it from the British and win Canadian support for the American cause. The attack failed and one of the American commanders lost his life. The British were well prepared and repelled the offensive. So, the British took the initiative in the war at that moment.
