First, lets substitute [b] into [a] and solve for x

  2x - ( x - 1) = 10

         2x - x  = 10 - 1

                  x = 9

Now, since x = 9, we can substitute for x in [b]

      ⇒  y = 9 - 1

            y = 8

∴ the solution for the system of equations is x = 9, y = 8 OR  (9, 8)
