What do you think of Smith's rule that able-bodied people
who didn't work wouldn't eat? Was it fair? Why or why not?

I think Smith's rules was fair. One person can not do all the work. If someone has the ability to work, then they should. They knew they were going to come to the New World.  He did it to discipline them in a strict way. If he didn't make that rule, what do you could have happened? Some would work and some wouldn't. There would be bunch of spoiled men. If he didn't take control, they wouldn't have even survived. He literally did it for their benefit.
