The electrons transfer from one atom to the other in ionic bonding. For example, chlorine and sodium. Sodium gives one electron to chlorine. Th en they have opposite charges a day attract. In metallic bonding, there is a sea of electrons that kind of float freely around the nuclei of the metal. So theyes are both sharing electrons and are attracted to each other.
