Natural nitrogen fixation; An important part of the natural nitrogen cycle were nitrogen gas (N2) in the atmosphere is converted into ammonia (NH3) in in the ground.  Some bacteria (diazotrophs), both free living in the soil and in symbiosis with root nodules of some plants, use enzymes (nitrogenazes) to convert the nitrogen into a form that can be used by living organisms.Hope this helps :/
