Hello there.

Question: Twice the sum of a number and two is sixteen. Find the number.

Answer: Put it into an equation:
2 ( x + 2 ) = 16.
Expand the parentheses:
2x + 4 = 16
Solve the equation:
16 - 4 = 12
12 / 2 = 6.
The number is 6.
