The sun and moon rotate and so does the earth; them rotating together creates the fast paced days that we have, where we have the sunrise and the sunset, day and night. If the earth stopped rotating then these different period of time would come along much slower, sunrise would last weeks, and so would nighttime, sunset, morning and so on.
