Since cities are usually more economically and culturally dynamic than the countryside, they have historically attracted rural people. Some of the reasons are: there are more jobs available in the city; those jobs usually pay higher wages; more possibilities for education in general, and especially higher education; a greater concentration of recreation and cultural activities (theaters, orchestras, film, etc.).
