 , there can be 0 , 1 , or 2 solutions to a quadratic equation, depending on whether the expression inside the square root sign, (b 2 - 4ac) , is positive, negative, or zero

Here is an easy way to remember, If the discriminant is equal to zero there will be one solution, if the discriminant is less than 0 or negative there are no real solutions, more than 0 or positive there will be two. So one real solution if it is equal
