why does the pond not get as hot during the day when water lilies cover the pond surface with leaves?

The pond will get hot because the sun light heated the water. And the lilies' leaves can absorbed the light of blue and red then reflect the green light. So the amount of light which can be absorbed by water will decrease. Thus the pond does not get so hot.
