What is an expression that is equal to -(16 - 9) ?

I don't understand it at all.

This expression can be simplified a little further.
The "-" before the parentheses shows that you need to distribute -1.

(-1*16) + (-1*-9)
-16 + 9

-16 + 9 is equal to -(16 - 9).
