Longstreet was a great tactician and a master of the art of war. He understood the theory that it was not good to attack a stationary army. The attacking army would always suffer the biggest loss. Longstreet was totally against this unwanted bloodshed. Lee had overruled has most trusted general and suffered a big loss in the war. Longstreet understood that the army position of the Union was far too strong to attack and win. Longstreet’s views of the war was absolutely correct as was proven later.
