The family played a critical role in northup's life in both freedom and slavery. how does his portrayal of black family life shape his narrative and his critique of slavery?

The family portrays themselves as being sympathetic towards blacks. The slavery movement was a horrible time so for a family to play a critical role in his slavery and then his freedom is unheard of. His critique of slavery with his narrative is not common for that time frame.
