There are many reasons why one might want to use contranceptive methods. One might be that the people in question don't want to have any more children and have therefore decided to use contraceptive methods. Another might be that they do not wish to get any kind of STDs. Here condoms might be useful for exsmple. This of course depends completely on the person and the situation.
