Cells are made up of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids. These compounds are mostly composed of carbon, hyrdogen, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur. This structure makes cellular processes occur in cells successfully and help maintain the cell's integrity and homeostasis. When these chemicals undergo respiration or other processes they yield ATP as an energy source for the cells' organelles.
