Alphabet letters are easier to use in setting type compared to Chinese characters because any sounds we can think can be observed just by using combinations of letters. Ancient written languages such as Chinese depict ideas. There are more than fifty thousands of different characters in a Chinese written language. However, the alphabet only has 26 letters.
