First, you would find out how much 1 gallon of gas would cost

You would calculate $19.46 divided by 14 gallons

Your quotient is $1.39

Then, you would divide how much money you actually have ( $8.70 ) by how much 1 gallon is ( $1.39 )

You get 6.25...

But since you cannot by 1/4 a gallon, you would round your quotient down to 6

Solution : 6 gallons
